How to Check a Crypto Transaction on the Blockchain

Tutorials · Informational guide · Updated 2026

What a block explorer is

A block explorer is a website that lets you view transactions and addresses on a blockchain, such as Etherscan for Ethereum.

Step 1: Get the transaction ID

After sending, copy the transaction hash, also called the txid, from your wallet.

Step 2: Open the right explorer

Use the explorer for the correct network, such as Etherscan for Ethereum or a Bitcoin block explorer for BTC.

Step 3: Search the hash

Paste the transaction hash into the explorer search box and view the result.

Step 4: Read the status

The explorer shows the status, confirmations, amount, fee and the addresses involved.

Why this matters

Checking the explorer lets you independently verify a transaction went through, even if your wallet shows a different status.
