How to Transfer Crypto from an Exchange to a Hardware Wallet

Tutorials · Informational guide · Updated 2026

Why withdraw

Keeping large balances on an exchange means trusting a third party. Withdrawing to your own wallet gives you true control.

Step 1: Get your wallet address

Open your wallet, select the right coin and network, and copy your receiving address.

Step 2: Start the withdrawal

On the exchange, choose Withdraw, select the same coin and network, and paste your address.

Step 3: Verify everything

Confirm the address and network match exactly. Choosing the wrong network can permanently lose the funds.

Step 4: Complete the withdrawal

Enter the amount, complete any two-factor authentication, and confirm the withdrawal.

Step 5: Confirm receipt

Check your wallet for the incoming transaction and wait for confirmations.

Tip

Always do a small test withdrawal first when moving to a new address.
